Strange but smart

I know I don't like Lady Gaga at all but I thought this was quite smart...

I came across a Youtube video of Alejandro that had been reversed and noticed something quite funny. I'm surprised that no one else has discovered this.

If you skip to 4:18 (which is actually the introduction of the music video) you will notice that Lady Gaga is saying "My name is Stefani, I I am Stefani".

Can you hear it?

Heartbreaker

"The rom-com of the summer"
Harpers Bazaar

"A real crowd pleaser ★★★★"
Heat Magazine

"Utterly Chic"
Vogue

Are you ready for the romantic comedy of the summer?

Heartbreaker is a French movie starring Romain Duris and Vanessa Paradis. Alex (Duris) is a professional heartbreaker. His job is to come between two lovers and split them up using his sole weapon: seduction. His latest mission is to tempt Juliette (Paradis), a rich (and very stylish) socialite, from her lover but this proves very difficult. However, this doesn't stop Alex from doing anything he could possibly do to sweep Juliette off her feet. Filled with comedy and lots of gorgeous dresses, this is the ultimate chick flick.

Now I am usually a harsh critic when it comes to movies as I am not easily pleased. However, on this occasion I absolutely loved the film! I was a bit sceptical at first as the introduction seemed quite serious and dull. (Plus I didn't even know that it was going to be in French. Quite a few people actually left the cinema without giving the movie a chance, which is a shame but it was their loss...) But then the comedy came out of nowhere and left all the viewers laughing. There is a lot more comedy surprises in this movie. I would love to share some of them with you but I don't want to ruin it for you.

There is also a little action in this movie (perfect for a date night!). I love how they made the action moments comical, which is great for me as I hate action.

And I must mention the beautiful scenery of this movie. The bulk of it is set in Monaco. If you don't have the cash to fly to this beautiful country this summer, then you can enjoy its gorgeous landscape for the cost of a cinema ticket.

Overall, I love love love this film and I think every single one of you should watch it! The only thing that ruined it for me was that the seats in front of me were blocking the subtitles so I'd advise you to find a seat that allows you to see the whole screen. But that issue aside, the movie truly deserves a 10/10!

Heartbreaker will be in cinemas on July 2nd so make a note in your diaries! I hope you all enjoy the movie as much as I did.

Alejandro music video. What the...?

Who has seen Lady Gaga's Alejandro?

There are a million things just plain WRONG with that video. Not just with what is going on in the video but what it is trying to imply.

I'm not going to waste my time on this issue as it's not worth my time. I would like to know what you think of it and what you think the meaning of the video is though. So please leave a comment and let me know!

Getaway - Michelle Branch and Timbaland

I love Michelle and I love her new song! I've been waiting so long to finally hear it.

What do you think of her new song?

I never imagined Michelle and Timbaland to collaborate but what they created together is perfect!

Sunny songs

Is it just me or does the weather remind you of certain songs?

Whenever it is sunny and warm, I am always reminded of songs I used to listen to whilst walking home from college right before the summer holidays. Now college was a few years ago yet the sunny weather always reminds me of those days. I mostly listened to Michelle Branch (who I adore!) so whenever the sun is out and I am listening to Michelle Branch, I am reminded of those happy carefree days, walking in the sun and looking forward to the summer holidays.

There are some songs that I tend to keep away from when it is sunny as, emotionally, I am taken back to the grey winter days. I hate the winter and I am already dreading it. The dark skies, the grey clouds, the damp smell, the cold wind... But lets forget about the winter and make the most of the happy sunny weather and happy sunny music...

Do you have any summer songs that you like to listen to when the sun is out?

What I watched last night

Who watched The Delicious Miss Dahl last night? Wasn't she a dahl-ing? I really loved the show and can't wait for the next one. Unlike many cooking shows, I found that Sophie makes cooking seem more relaxed and easy, just as it should be. And the food she made look very tempting.

In case you missed it, just click here to watch.

However, I was slightly annoyed that she didn't state the amount of the ingredients she used and what temperature to set the oven at a few times but luckily I've managed to find the recipes on the BBC  website so don't worry about jotting things down as you're watching.

Here are the lovely recipes...
If you can't bear to wait a whole week to watch the next episode, Amazon have her book, Miss Dahl's Voluptuous Delights (RRP £20.00), on offer for only £8.99! But you'd have to purchase by the end of the week to take advantage of this deal.

Bon appetit!

The Delicious Miss Dahl

As you all know, Sophie Dahl has lost so much weight since her plus size modelling days, which proves that her slim figure isn't the result of some lucky genes. So how does she stay looking fit? Celery sticks? Cabbage soup? There has to be a secret diet! Well, you'd be surprised by Sophie's 'diet' as she share some yummy recipes not typical of a supermodel's diet on her brand new cookery show. It just proves that you can still eat delicious and look even more delicious.

The first episode, which airs tomorrow (23rd March) at 8.30 am on BBC 2, is appropriately named 'Selfish'. Here we can follow Sophie as she cooks all her meals from her Omelette Arnold Bennett for breakfast to her indulgent Chocolate Pots dessert. Yummy! But the recipe that I am looking forward to the most is the peanut butter fudge! How good does that sound?!!

Enjoy!

Rihanna - rude girl!

"Come here rude boy, boy
  Can you get it up
  Come here rude boy, boy
  Is you big enough"

Not exactly something I'd want to hear my children (if I had any) singing! Yet radios are allowed to play Rihanna's Rude Boy during the daytime.

"Kids don't understand - they just like the catchy tune"
Even if they don't understand what it means, it is still inappropriate. I'm sure no sane mother would like to hear her young children using sexual language even when they don't understand what it means.

Many young girls look up to Rihanna and I'm pretty sure Rihanna and the record company are aware of that, so why do they need to infect the minds of hormonal adolescents, who already have sex shoved in their faces, with the inappropriate lyrics and music video. The video isn't exactly teaching young girls to be modest and to be judged by their personalities rather than their bodies. And it isn't teaching young boys to treat girls respectfully either.

This, like most things in the media, including Lady Gaga and Beyonce's Telephone, seems 'normal' these days but its messages are promoting underage sex, which further promotes the problems we already have today such as babies having babies and young girls having to have cervical cancer jabs in case they get an STD!

"Come on, you're overreacting!"
I might sound like I'm exaggerating here but don't be surprised by the state of future generations if we continue to accept what is 'normal'.

Portrayals of a 'Lady'

I first heard Lady Gaga and Beyonce's 'Telephone' quite a while ago and was disappointed to find out that there wasn't a music video. I quite liked the catchy song and was thrilled to hear that the video would be out soon. It was finally released a few hours ago and I wish they never made it for a number of reasons. I would put the video up but it is not something I want to promote. So I apologise if you have to look it up yourself.

So what happens in the vid?
The video starts with Lady Gaga's entrance to a prison with butch-looking, plastic-boobed female guards. The prison is full of scantily dressed women who look like hookers. As Gaga walks by, the 'hookers' seem to be seducing her from their cells. After she enters her cell, the guards strip her leaving her with only stickers to cover her nipples and fishnet tights. The crotch area is blurred out (thank God) implying that she isn't wearing any underwear. However, instead of covering herself with her bed sheet like a real 'Lady' would, she climbs onto the cell door for all to see.

Afterwards, Lady Gaga sits outside with the rest of the prisoners and is approached by a (male or female?) prisoner. He/she kisses her and she happily makes out with him/her. She goes an extra step and touches him/her 'down there'. When the song finally starts, Gaga dances with other inmates wearing leather thong bikinis.

Gaga is bailed out by Beyonce and meets her at the car. After she climbs in, Beyonce tells her "You've been a very bad girl" and feeds her from her hand almost like her mistress. They then plot to murder a man for some reason, who at the restaurant, smacks a random girls bottom.

So from this video we can see that women are portrayed anything but positively. I understand that this might not be the goal but it is obvious that such negative portrayals can be dangerous.

"Come on, it's just a music video!"
As harmless as it might seem, just like anything we see in the media this video can have negative implications on the value of women in society. The image of women has already be degraded enough and it needs to stop. The more we are subjected to similar things in the media, the more we become immune to them. We just get used to them and they are perceived as normal.

It's a typical sexist ad
Another thing that really stood out from the music video is the amount of product placement of brands, which was so obvious. The brands I have come across whilst watching the video are...
Plentyoffish.com
Virgin Mobile
Diet Coke
Polaroid
Wonder bread
Miracle Whip
HP
Beats by Dr. Dre

There are also some that I couldn't work out such as the logo on the papercup in the car and the snack Beyonce throws out of the car (promoting littering, hmm?)

The music video ends with 'to be continued...'
No thanks!

Back from Wonderland :(

Well I watched Alice in Wonderland today in IMAX 3D and the effects were amazing. It really did feel like I was in Wonderland and I want to go back! The plot wasn't as good as I had expected as it was meant to be like a sequel to the Lewis Carroll classic. In comparison to the original story, it was quite dark and filled with action, which isn't quite my thing. The plot change, however, did make the movie less predictable.

It also did not focus on many of the eccentric characters, which is a shame. However, it was nice seeing the characters again, this time in 3D and played really well by the cast, which includes Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. My favourite character was the adorable yet courageous dormouse, played by Barbara Windsor.

So even though I was quite disappointed with the plot, the 3D experience made up for it and I shall be looking forward to buying the DVD once it comes out in 13 weeks.

There isn't much else I can say about this movie except to go and see it for yourself. It was released today and is available to watch in 2D (booo!), Disney Digital 3D and IMAX 3D. Please let me know how it goes.

Have a great weekend!

Wonderful Wonderland

I feel pretty energetic today. Not only was the sun finally shining, which means Spring is finally upon us (I hope), but I'll be going to the cinema tomorrow to watch a certain movie. Take a good guess what it is!!! I'll be watching Alice in Wonderland in IMAX 3D at the Imax Cinema. So it'll be like stepping into Wonderland itself! So exciting! Aaaaarghhhhh!! :D

If you've been living in a cave and haven't seen the trailer yet or you simply want to watch it over and over again because, like me, you can't control your excitement, here ya go...

Also check out some amazing Alice in Wonderland make up tutorials by Make-up artist, Kandee Johnson. This woman is a genius!

The Mad Hatter:

Queen of Hearts:

I'm not the only one going wacko for Wonderland, it seems. Almost everywhere I go, I am reminded of this movie, which is making it harder for me to control my excitement.

Fashion

This season's flowery dresses and vintage style jewellery and accessories, including cameo (which i love so much!), are perfect for any tea party or just about anywhere!

As well as Miss Selfridge's Wonderland t-shirts, House of Fraser have a special section on their website dedicated to Wonderland, with pieces such as flowery bangles, cute tea dresses and pretty beauty products.

This gold plated clock necklace by Disney Couture is just adorable! And it's functioning too! With this cutey you will turn up 'fashionably' and 'not late' for that important date.

For something a little cheaper, try this one on for size, for only £15 at Dorothy Perkins.

There is also a cute long necklace with a bird's cage charm, which is unfortunately not available on the House of Fraser website but you might find at your local store. Luckily, there is a similar one at Asos, which is just as adorable.

Beauty

For fresh and flawless skin, I always use Bourjois's 10 hour sleep effect foundation. This stuff really works! However, if you're prone to dark circles more than the average Joan, apply Bourjois's Imperfection Concealer under your eyes and on your eyelids. I normally get these from Boots but they're also available at Superdrug.

For a romantic look, try Benefit's new Sugarbomb on the apples of your cheeks. Sugarbomb is made up of 4 different shades which you can either apply separately or mix up different combinations of each colour.

For something a little more purse-friendly, cheaper brands work fine. Make sure you have either a soft pink or peach blusher in your make up bag. If you have a pink undertone to your skin, which can't be covered with foundation, go for a peach as the pink will only make your face look red. If you have yellow undertones, go for the soft pink. If you are lucky enough to be able to cover any obvious undertones, get both!

And now for some lippy. Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper launched their new MAC lipsticks on Monday, which will be available to buy both on the MAC website and at MAC stores for £12.50. Plus 100% of their sales will go to the MAC AIDS fund. So you'll be doing your bit for charity too!

Viva Glam Gaga is a 'light blue pink' shade, which definitely compliments the romantic look; whilst Viva Glam Cyndi is a 'light reddish coral', perfect for lady like glamour.

For a cheaper alternative, try Miss Sporty's Innocence (009) from Superdrug or Lloyds Pharmacy. I've tried out other lipsticks under £5 and this is the only one that was that perfect shade. The only thing that isn't so perfect about it is its staying power. So if you don't want to be reapplying it throughout the day, try some Lipcote to seal.

The cheapest lipstick I have found in red is Collection 2000's Volume Boost Lipstick in Red for £2.99. To find the right one for you, you'd might want to have a look for a similar shade from Miss Sporty for £2.99 or Natural Collection for £1.99 at Boots.

Tea party!!

Starting from tomorrow, Frankie and Benny's will be holding Mad Hatter's tea parties to celebrate the release of Alice in Wonderland and you're invited! Since they'll be held only at selected restaurants, it might be best to call your local Frankie and Benny's first. My local one aren't having a party :( but if you do attend one of their tea partys, let me know how it goes. The parties will be held until Sunday.

No tea party is complete without NEW Cadbury's Caramel Biscuits! I am crazy for anything caramelicious so as soon as I set eyes on these babies, I had to buy them. I ripped the pack open as soon as I left the store. The yummy buttery biscuit is topped with gooey caramel and is completely drenched in Cadbury's Milk Chocolate. According to the back of the packet, there is a Crunchie and Turkish Delight version. I'm not a fan of Cadbury's Turkish Delight but I'm definitely getting me some Crunchie ones when I find 'em. I'm not sure if they are available yet in other stores, but Sainsburys have them for £1 right now so get 'em while you can!

Because they're so new, I couldn't find a picture so I had to take one myself. You can see where I ripped it open lol.

So that's all for today. I'm sure there are plenty of Wonderful Wonderland things out there to buy so if you find anything please lemme know.

I'll be back tomorrow to review the movie. Until then!

xoxo
